Life thru the haze of cat hair.

Category Archives: 2 million steps

I was originally going to write about earworms today. You know, those songs you just can’t get out of your head. Because lately, I have been waking up with Alanis Morissette’s “All I Really Want” in my brain. More specifically the lyrics:

Why are you so petrified of silence
Here can you handle this?

Did you think about your bills, your ex, your deadlines
Or when you think you’re gonna die
Or did you long for the next distraction

I love AM. And I can’t wait to hear something new from her. But as often as I wake up lately with that in my head, I have to wonder if it’s my subconscious mind trying to tell me something. (Subconscious? Unconscious? I’ve heard it both ways, but to me these words mean tremendously different things.) (Whatevs.) (You know what I mean.)

*****

Along those lines, is it “preventive” or “preventative”? Yes, I could go look it up, but I’m tired. *snort*

*****

So, the reason that ear-worms aren’t getting a full post is that I was checking out my blog dashboard – for no apparent reason – and it seems there are now ten (10) of you who have subscribed to Mag and Moo’s blog.

Oh. Mah. Gah.

First of all, THANK YOU!

Secondly, WTH is wrong with you people??

Thirdly, WELCOME! *waves*

That distracted me for a while, what with the giggling and all.

Thank you.

I haven’t updated my 2 million steps in a while. Let me go look at my spreadsheet. (You heard me.)

Through week 17, I have walked 471,105 steps. 1,528,895 to go.

It seems that giving up cable is finally starting to take hold. I canceled it in January, and I don’t have local channels. But I have Netflix and Hulu so if there is *really* something I want to watch, I can usually find it. But over the last week and a half – starting with Monday last on my vacation – I think I have seen maybe 2 hours total of anything.

I have become quite fond of the quiet at night. The Wonder Twins are still adjusting but they’ll manage.

*****

That’s what I have for you tonight. There was something else, but I can’t remember what it is. Next time…

Week 12: 34,636

Week 13: 33,241

I am liking this trend! A lot! I love that the weather is warming up and the sun is up longer.

It’s April now. I saw a few trees dressed in their new green yesterday. I’ve read that is a big trend this spring. Some trees were more bashful and wanted to wait until after Easter to start showing off. I like it when Mother Nature starts putting on a show.

Considering the week I had last week, I’m pleased that I did so well this week. I am hoping that this week will be better. And I’m looking forward to my vacation week at the end of the month.

Let’s keep this going.

Well, it seems that writing 4 lines about my walking totals is way too difficult for me to do on a regular basis. (*insert eye roll here*)

Week 9: 21,816

Week 10: 22,395

Week 11: 27,181

So, the trend is going in the right direction. That’s a good thing. I’m pleased with that.

And the weather is delightful. The temps are in the 70s today, and are predicted to be that all week. How awesome is that? In March? In Maine? I got out to rake some today and, despite my blister, it was glorious. The heat is off and the windows are open. Life is pretty damn good.

Not great. Not bad.

Things at work this week look like they might calm down a bit, so I’m hopeful that I won’t be as exhausted by the time I get home in the evenings. Who knew sitting at a desk could be so exhausting!

I’m 2 months in now, and I have a long way to go. But I *will* get there. And it *will* be before Thanksgiving.

Week 6 – 23,966

Week 7 – 30,340

So, I forgot to post last week, for no apparent reason. I was crazy busy at work, but that’s not an excuse.

Week 6 started really good, but I petered out towards the end.

Week 7 was pretty consistent on a day by day analysis.

This week? I’m “working from home” tomorrow, so I hope to get some good walking in. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and cool-ish. I have something to mail, so I could walk to the post office, but it’s closed.

As the weather gets warmer more consistently, I will walk outside more. And it’s getting lighter, later these days. Plus, isn’t daylight savings time coming into play here soon?

This was a good week. I like it.

The days are getting longer, and the temps are getting warmer. Soon, I will be able to walk outside without having to bundle up like the sta-puft marshmallow man.

I feel better when I move more.  And that’s hopefully getting easier. Or more regular.

Last week was long and exhausting. Too many meetings.

Looking ahead, I don’t think I have as many meetings. Thank goat. Too much time on the phone makes Kitten cranky.

Better than last week. Not as good as my best.

I was actually a little surprised that it was so low. I took the day off Friday and did some shopping, so I thought all that walking around would be reflected. I’m going to choose to look at it like, wow – think how low it would have been if I HADN’T taken the day off.  Mark one in the WIN column.

Back to work today with lots of conference calls. More sitting. I don’t think I have to lead any of them, so perhaps I can pace and get some moving in.

And while I know it’s still winter, February starts Wednesday (?!?!?! I know!) so warmer weather is heading our way.

I need to get out of the 1.9s!!

Ugh! Not a good week. I know I could list all kinds of excuses, but they were just that. Excuses.

Work was busy, I didn’t feel well, it was cold/snowing/raining.

All I can do now is do better this week.

This week, I am fighting a cold but I want to do better than last week, so I’m going to suck it up and do better. So far in the past 2 days I’ve done remarkably well on achieving more. So yay me!

Much better than last week, although not as many as I “should”. As long as I increase the number every week, I consider it a win.

Still, I’m making good progress. So I’m pretty pleased.

The winter weather in Maine has been very strange. It has been much warmer than normal for most of the season, but this past week, we got the first substantial snow and it’s crazy cold. I did walk outside yesterday, but the sidewalks were icy and not safe.

So this week, I have another busy week at work and that means a lot of time sitting at my desk. I’ll be making more effort to walk to the water fountain and to get tea. I’ve also ordered a Zumba for my Wii, so I will be getting good cardio when that is delivered – probably Tuesday. I hope it’s fun.

I started off a little slowly this week. By rights, my total should have been higher.

But, I’m choosing to look at this week as a baseline. As in, during a “typical” week in my current existence, how much movement would I get? But since this is a new day and a new opportunity to be better than I was yesterday, I can do better this week. I still have 51 weeks to go.

Nothing out of the ordinary is coming up this week, that I know of. I can plan to move around during conference calls a bit; pace a little.  I can take the long way to the ladies’ room. Currently, I already park in one of the furthest spots, so I don’t need to change that.

Perhaps if the weather stays mild, I can go outside for some fresh air during the day.
